Who We Are
The NICTT is an organisation that has adopted a research and evaluating approach to its treatment and training activities. As a consequence, we have accumulated evidence on how trauma has impacted upon individuals and their families, on the population and on the economic impact of trauma related disorders. This work has contributed directly to the development of services. For example, knowledge about how trauma impacts on people and how services can be developed to meet their needs has have delivered good outcomes for patients, trainees and service providers. The Centre has actively used feedback from patients, students and partner organisations to inform the continuing development of its programmes.
Our international work brought some of our experience to areas of high need and low resources demonstrating that our methods, suitably adapted, can transfer across cultures and language. This work has in turn significantly influenced the development of our training and therapy here in Northern Ireland.
The NICTT has five main interlocking areas of activity:
- Treatment
- Training
- Research and Development
- Sharing Knowledge and Policy Support
- Humanitarian and international work
